Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)
The most famous sermon in American history, preached at the height of the Great Awakening. Edwards uses the image of God holding the sinner over the pit of hell to drive home the urgency of repentance, but the sermon ends with the offer of mercy.
