Practical Religion

J.C. Ryle (1816-1900)

Ryle addresses the everyday texture of the Christian life, covering prayer, Bible reading, self-examination, charity, and the dangers of worldliness and formality. Written as a companion to his Knots Untied and Old Paths, it treats these topics with the plain, searching directness for which he was known. Published in 1878 while Ryle was still Vicar of Stradbroke, shortly before he became the first Bishop of Liverpool.
