The Death of Death in the Death of Christ

John Owen (1616-1683)

John Owen mounts the most thorough defense ever written of particular redemption, the teaching that Christ died to actually secure the salvation of his people rather than merely make all people savable. He argues from the unity of the Trinity's purpose that the Father, Son, and Spirit cannot intend to save those who finally perish. Dense and closely reasoned, it remains the standard Reformed treatment of the extent of the atonement.
