Religious Affections

Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)

Edwards's most systematic treatment of the nature of genuine Christian experience, written in the wake of the Great Awakening. He distinguishes true spiritual affections worked by the Holy Spirit from counterfeit religious feeling, and proposes twelve distinguishing signs by which gracious affections may be known. A landmark in Reformed experimental theology.
