An Orthodox Catechism

Hercules Collins (c. 1646-1702)

Hercules Collins adapted the beloved Heidelberg Catechism for Particular Baptist congregations, keeping its warm structure of guilt, grace, and gratitude while revising its teaching on baptism and the Lord's Supper. Published in 1680, it gave English Baptists a confessional teaching tool rooted in the wider Reformed tradition. The work shows how the early Baptists saw themselves as heirs of the Reformation rather than a sect apart from it.
