The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification
Walter Marshall (1628-1680)
Walter Marshall sets out how holiness actually grows in the Christian life, arguing that sanctification flows from union with Christ and faith in the gospel rather than from sheer moral effort. Across fourteen directions he shows that believers obey out of assurance of God's favor, not to earn it, drawing peace and power for godliness from what Christ has already secured. It became one of the most influential Puritan treatments of how grace produces a holy life.
