Abstract of Systematic Theology
James Petigru Boyce (1827-1888)
Boyce founded Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1859 and wrote this work as the theological foundation his institution needed, covering the full range of Christian doctrine from Scripture and God through last things in a single accessible volume. It stood apart from contemporary Baptist theology in its commitment to Reformed soteriology, giving the Southern Baptist tradition a Calvinist systematic at its institutional center. Published in 1887, the year before Boyce's death, it remains the clearest statement of Reformed Baptist theology in the nineteenth century.
